Set up return-to-base rules

Create an alert rule that triggers when tags haven't returned to their base location within a time limit.

Prerequisites

  • A Blecon Track workspace with tracked tags
  • A zone representing the base location

Step 1: Create the rule

  1. Go to Rules and click + Add Rule.
  2. Select Not Where Expected as the rule type.
  3. Keep the Away too long mode.
  4. Choose the base location (the zone where tags should return).
  5. Set the maximum away duration (e.g., 8 hours).
  6. Set the severity and click Add Rule.

Step 2: Choose targeting

  • All tags: Every tracked tag must return to the base within the time limit.
  • Specific tags: Select individual tag IDs to monitor.
  • Zone tags: If you have multiple base locations, tag them and use the tag instead of a single location.

Step 3: Verify

Check that the rule appears in the alert rules list with status Enabled. The system begins evaluating the rule immediately.

When to use a clock deadline instead

If your requirement is "tags must be back by 6pm" (a specific clock time), switch the rule to its Not back by a time mode. Away too long measures elapsed time away, and not back by a time checks against a daily deadline.
