Blecon Agent

Turn your frontline workers into a walking tracking network. The Blecon Agent runs on phones, tablets, laptops, and vehicles, acting as a mobile hotspot that detects nearby tags and relays data to the cloud wherever your people and vehicles already go.

Download Blecon Agent

Get it on Google Play Download on the App Store Get it from Microsoft

The iOS and macOS app is the same download from the App Store. Android requires Android 12 or later.

Set up

Setup takes a minute and needs no configuration:

  1. Install the app using the store links above. In Blecon Track, Settings → Network → Agent shows a QR code you can scan with the phone's camera.
  2. Allow location and Bluetooth. The Agent needs both: Bluetooth to detect nearby tags, location to know where it saw them. On Android, choose Allow all the time so it keeps working when the phone is locked.
  3. That's it. The Agent runs in the background — nobody has to open it or scan anything. Tags near the phone start appearing on your map.

If the Agent doesn't show as active, see Troubleshoot a tag not appearing on the map.

How mobile hotspots work

The Blecon Agent does three things:

  • Hotspot: detects nearby Blecon tags via Bluetooth, uses GPS to determine its own position, and relays both to the Blecon cloud. All communication between the Agent and Blecon tags is encrypted end-to-end.
  • Scanner: reads a tag's QR code or barcode with your phone's camera, or its NFC chip if it has one, and registers it to your network in seconds. See Register and scan tags.
  • Secure relay: carries data from Blecon tags to the cloud over an encrypted channel, with no pairing or manual configuration required.

The positioning engine automatically:

  • Selects the best available data for each position calculation.
  • Excludes stale GPS data (older than 6 minutes).
  • Prefers hubs when available, falling back to mobile hotspots.

No manual configuration is needed; the system handles mobile hotspot optimization automatically.

Mobile hotspots and the Network page

Mobile hotspots do not need to be registered. Install the Agent and coverage starts.

The Network → Hubs section of the dashboard is for hubs: register them, place them on the map, and monitor that they stay online. Do not register phones or handhelds there. A phone moves with its carrier, so a registered position and an online/offline expectation do not fit it.

To see a phone or handheld on the map, add it as an asset instead. It then appears with a live position and a trail, like any tracked device.

Blecon Agent and Zebra devices

The Blecon Agent transforms Zebra Technologies' frontline handhelds into autonomous mobile hotspots. By activating the built-in Bluetooth radio in handhelds your workers already carry, you get continuous asset tracking with zero additional infrastructure. Workers don't need to change their workflows; the Agent runs in the background, quietly detecting and reporting nearby tags and Smart Labels.

The Agent also runs on standard phones, tablets, and laptops across Android, iOS, macOS, and Windows.

Deploy coverage overnight at zero cost

Push the Blecon Agent to your workforce's phones overnight and you have a tracking network the next morning: no hardware to buy, no installation, no extra cost. Extend or reshape coverage at any time by pushing the Agent to more phones.

When to use mobile hotspots

Mobile hotspots are ideal for:

  • Zero-infrastructure deployments: use phones and handhelds your workers already carry instead of installing fixed hardware.
  • Rapid rollout: deploy coverage overnight via app push, reshape it any time.
  • Extending coverage to areas without hub infrastructure.
  • Outdoor tracking where hubs aren't practical.
  • Temporary coverage during setup or events.
  • Vehicle-mounted scanning for yard and campus deployments.

For areas where you need consistent, high-accuracy positioning, use hubs.

Accuracy considerations

Mobile hotspot accuracy depends on GPS signal quality. Indoors or in urban canyons, GPS accuracy may be lower than in open outdoor areas. For best results, ensure mobile phones have good GPS signal.
