Set up your first tracking network

Coverage comes first. A tag only appears on the map once something is listening for it, so this guide gets a hotspot online and reporting. Adding tags comes next, in Add your first tag.

What you need

Don't have hardware yet? An evaluation kit ships tags and a hotspot together, and its quickstart takes you through the same steps with known-good parts.

Step 1: Open your workspace

  1. Go to Blecon Track and sign in.
  2. Select your workspace. Everything you create (tags, zones, rules) lives inside it.

Step 2: Get a hotspot online

Pick whichever you have to hand. You can add more later, and mix both.

Using a phone or tablet:

  1. Install the Blecon Agent and sign in with your Blecon account.
  2. Leave it running. The Agent works in the background, scanning for nearby tags and relaying what it hears.

Using a fixed hotspot:

  1. Power it on and connect it to your network, following the instructions for your hotspot.

Step 3: Check it is reporting

  1. Go to Network in Blecon Track.
  2. Your hotspot appears in the list. It shows as online once it has reported in; a new hotspot can take a few minutes to first appear.

If it never shows up, check that it has power and connectivity, and that the Agent is signed in to the same account as your workspace.

What you have now

Coverage. Anything in range of that hotspot can be tracked, without installing infrastructure.

Next: Add your first tag.
