Blecon Network overview

Blecon Network is the platform layer — the positioning and connectivity engine that everything else is built on. It turns Bluetooth signals into device positions, manages device and hotspot connections, and delivers data to your applications via the Network API.

Blecon Track is one application built on the Network API. You can also consume Network data directly — via webhooks, AWS integrations, or the API — to build your own applications.

When your Blecon Track account is set up, a network is created automatically. You don't need to configure anything to start getting positions. But understanding how positioning works helps you get better results — especially indoors.

How positioning works

Hotspots detect Bluetooth signals from your devices and report them to the cloud. A device's position is the location of the hotspot that detects it — proximity-based positioning that works with a single hotspot and gets more granular as you add more.

For a detailed explanation, see How positioning works.

Positioning approaches

Approach Accuracy How it works
Proximity Room/area level Device position is the detecting hotspot's location
Network zones Room/area level Hotspots and reference beacons assign devices to named zones — works without GPS or surveyed coordinates

Network zones are especially useful indoors where GPS isn't available.

Configuration

Positioning behaviour is configured per network. You can adjust update frequency, accuracy targets, coordinate systems, and data collection windows. See Positioning settings.

Going further

Advanced users and integrators can access the full network configuration through the integrator guide — covering the Blecon Console, APIs, and integration connectors for managing networks, devices, data routing, and more.
