What is Blecon?

Blecon is a Bluetooth Low Energy communication platform that provides secure data exchange and device tracking — indoors and outdoors.

Unlike traditional tracking platforms that only receive advertising data from beacons, Blecon supports full secure bidirectional data exchange between devices and the cloud. Tracking is the primary use case today, but the platform's capabilities go far beyond location — enabling sensor data collection, device configuration, and encrypted communication.

The two layers

Blecon is built in two layers that work together:

Blecon platform layers — Network API with Track and other integrations

Blecon Network — the positioning engine

Blecon Network handles the infrastructure: devices, hotspots, device connectivity, position calculation, and data routing. It takes Bluetooth signals from hotspots, calculates where your devices are, and delivers position and sensor data via the Network API.

Network answers the question: "Where is this thing?"

You can consume Network data directly — via webhooks, AWS integrations, or the Network API — to build your own applications. Or you can use Blecon Track.

Blecon Track — one application built on Network

Blecon Track is a tracking application built on the Network API. It provides a live map, alert rules, violations, and webhook notifications. You define rules like "alert me if a van hasn't returned by 6pm" and Track handles the monitoring.

Track answers the question: "What should I do about where this thing is?"

Track also has its own Tracker API, so you can build custom dashboards and automations on top of Track's features.

How it works

How Blecon works — from device broadcast to API and integrations

  1. Devices communicate with hotspots over Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).
  2. Hotspots relay those signals to Blecon Network.
  3. Network calculates device positions and exposes them via the Network API.
  4. You consume the data — through Blecon Track, webhooks, AWS integrations, or your own applications built on the API.

Deploy coverage exactly where you need it

You control where your tracking network reaches. Hotspots — the receivers that detect devices — can be frontline devices your workers already carry (phones, tablets, Zebra handhelds) or dedicated hardware gateways mounted in your facilities.

The Blecon Agent turns existing devices into hotspots. Push it to your workforce's phones overnight and you have coverage the next morning — zero hardware installation, zero extra cost. Extend or reshape coverage at any time by adding hotspots or pushing the Agent to more devices.

This means you can deploy a full tracking network using devices you already own, in the locations you actually need coverage.

Secure by design

Security is between the device and the cloud — not between the device and the hotspot. Hotspots are simple relays that don't pair with devices, don't hold encryption keys, and can't decrypt device data. This means zero security configuration at the edge and no risk from a compromised hotspot.

Blecon supports secure encrypted advertising via the Neo Beacon standard, with AES-128 authenticated encryption and replay protection on every BLE frame.

Hardware ecosystem

Blecon partners with hardware manufacturers — including Nordic Semiconductor, Zebra Technologies, Molex, MOKO SMART, and Ezurio — to enable Blecon support in their devices. You choose the hardware that fits your deployment and can swap vendors without changing your infrastructure or software. From reusable Smart Beacons to ultra-thin disposable Smart Labels for item-level tracking, there's a device for every use case. See Supported devices.

What you can do with it

  • Deploy tracking coverage overnight using devices your workers already carry
  • See all your assets on a live map with movement trails
  • Get alerts when devices enter or leave zones, go silent, or break schedules
  • Route data to your own systems via webhooks, AWS integrations, or the API
  • Track assets seamlessly as they move between indoor and outdoor environments
  • Build your own applications on the Network API or Tracker API
