Asset associations
Track items that belong together as a group. Asset associations let you model real-world relationships — packages on a pallet, sensors attached to a vehicle, or tools stored in a cabinet — so you always know not just where an asset is, but what's with it.
How it works
Any asset can be placed on another asset, creating a parent-child relationship. An asset can have one parent at a time and any number of children.
This mirrors how things work in the real world: a package sits on one pallet, but a pallet can hold many packages.
Placing an asset on a parent
- Open the asset you want to place.
- Click the three-dot menu (top right) and select Place on...
- Search for the parent asset by name or ID.
- Optionally choose a relationship (e.g., "stored in", "attached to").
- Click Associate.
The parent asset appears as a purple pill next to the asset's name. Click it to navigate to the parent.
Viewing children
When an asset has children, a Children section appears on its detail page showing each child with its status, zone, and last seen time. Click any row to navigate to that child.
In the assets list, a small purple badge next to an asset's name shows how many children it has.
Removing an association
- From the child asset: click the three-dot menu and select Remove from [parent name].
- From the parent asset: click Remove next to any child in the Children section.
Filtering
On the assets list page, use the Has Parent and Has Children dropdowns to filter assets by their association status.
Association history
Every time an asset is placed on or removed from a parent, it's recorded in the Association History section on the asset's detail page.
