Set up return-to-base rules

Create an alert rule that triggers when devices haven't returned to their base location within a time limit.

Prerequisites

  • A Blecon Track workspace with tracked devices
  • A zone representing the base location

Step 1: Create the rule

  1. Go to Alert Rules and click Create Rule.
  2. Select Return to Base as the rule type.
  3. Choose the base location — the zone where devices should return.
  4. Set the maximum away duration (e.g., 28,800 seconds for 8 hours).
  5. Set the severity.
  6. Click Create.

Step 2: Choose targeting

  • All devices — Every tracked device must return to the base within the time limit.
  • Specific devices — Select individual device IDs to monitor.
  • Zone tags — If you have multiple base locations, tag them and use the tag instead of a single location.

Step 3: Verify

Check that the rule appears in the alert rules list with status Enabled. The system begins evaluating the rule immediately.

When to use scheduled return instead

If your requirement is "devices must be back by 6pm" (a specific clock time), use Scheduled return instead. Return to base measures elapsed time away; scheduled return checks against a daily deadline.
